Language A: Karen Ritter
Karen Ritter, Department Chair
The mission of East Garner’s Language A Department is based on the concept of students being independent and critical thinkers in all areas of the art of language. Students in each grade level, Year One through Year Three, apply similar language concepts that become more complex as their middle school experience continues. Through reading, writing, listening and speaking students enhance their communication skills in order to utilize these in other curriculums and their future academic career. East Garner’s ELA department also engages students in a culturally and globally rich reading experience through the exploration of school-wide novels, such as The Breadwinner by Deborah Ellis that touch on world issues and invite cross grade-level and curricular discussions and activities to broaden student awareness.
