School Improvement Plan

 

1. Implement strategies that increase standardized test scores in reading.
a. Integrate reading into other areas of the curriculum
-Provide staff development relating to research based strategies to all faculty during early release teacher workdays and faculty meetings.
-Improve communication among team members
-Plan and apply curriculum mapping to link language arts with content area instruction.
b. Provide differentiated instruction in reading
-Provide staff development with consultants/outside resources
-Implement AVID and IB strategies
-Apply IB Design Cycle in all instructional areas
-Incorporate technology based activities into the curriculum
c. Implement flex time into core classes
-Area of Interaction Days( Interdisciplinary-students chose to participate in chosen enrichment activity days)
-Use assessment materials to evaluate student progress
-Remediate and enrich students as determined by instructional and administrative teams
-Establish monthly grade level interdisciplinary planning
2. Implement strategies that increase standardized test scores in mathematics.
a. Integrate mathematics into other areas of the curriculum
-Provide staff development relating new math strategies to all faculty during early release, faculty meetings, and teacher workdays.
-Chart graphs of success in all core and elective classes
-Increase communication among team members regarding curriculum objectives
-Incorporate technology-based activities into the curriculum
b. Provide differentiated instruction in mathematics
- Provide staff development with consultants
-Implement AVID/IB strategies
-Apply the IB Design Cycle in all instructional areas
-Incorporate technology-based activities into the curriculum
c. Implement flexible time in core classes
-Utilize cross curricular materials to evaluate
-Establish monthly interdisciplinary planning
-Remediate and enrich students as determined by instructional and administrative teams
3. Implement strategies that increase standardized test scores in writing.
a. Integrate writing into other areas of the curriculum
-Provide staff development relating to writing strategies
-increase communication among team members regarding curriculum objectives
-Establish Areas Of Interaction cross curriculum journal entries in preparation for Year 5 IB Personal Project
b. Provide differentiated instruction in writing
-Provide staff development with consultants
-Implement AVID/IB strategies
-Apply the IB Design Cycle in all instructional areas
-Incorporate technology based activities into the curriculum
c. Implement flexible time in core classes
- Utilize cross curricular assessment materials to evaluate.
-Remediate and enrich students as determined by instructional and administrative teams.
- In monthly grade level interdisciplinary meeting, articulate grade level writing expectations to all stakeholders.
4. To foster and develop a safe, orderly, and caring environment.
a. To foster the development of character education traits throughout the school population.
-Monthly character recognition of students per instructional team.
-School-wide character trait acknowledgement to deserving students.
-Recognize and reward classes displaying positive character traits.
b. Enhance strategies that promote a safe learning environment
-Recruit and teach additional S.A.V.E. Club members
-Implement small group sessions to provide instruction in dealing with peer relation issues.
-Expand SST to coordinate services to at-risk youth
c. To foster and teach importance of healthy lifestyles
-Hold a mini-health expo
-Girls To Women Fitness Program
-Emphasize the importance of Health/Social Area Of Interaction in instruction and activities
5. Increase family/business/community participation and involvement in school activities.
a. To promote and encourage parent awareness and active communication between the home and school.
- Communication mediums to inform/educate parents/guardians/students from various backgrounds
- To program more interactive and current data on school web site in a more timely manner in order to meet current information/educational needs of school and surrounding communities
-To plan and implement Hispanic-American and African-American Cultural Days for school and surrounding communities
b. To promote and encourage community stakeholders to establish active relationships with our school.
-Establish and maintain communication with area faith based and non-profit organizations
-Promote and encourage student IB community service
-Promote and inform citizens at public sites in the surrounding communities about our IB Middle Years Programme
c. Recruit and cultivate school-business partnerships in the local community
-Host an International Festival
-Build a community speaker database
-Using the business community, provide opportunities for career awareness through career fairs and career spotlights

-Foster active relationships with Business Alliance.
